Hey Mom!
No! I cant believe its february already! Its Crazy!!!! I am kind of excited for my 4month mark!
Alright, so my new companion is Elder Jensen from Park City Utah! We are off to a pretty good start! We are working hard. He is really young in the mission. And well I love him, its kind of funny to go from being Companions with Elder Butel who spoke French Fluently and was as mature as they come to Elder Jensen who speaks french about as well as I do. I am very excited to work with him though, I think the 1st week will always be tough. Its kind of weird. I didnt experience this with Elder Butel but we have really had to work hard to find how we can work best together. We are no doubt going to have fun. I am SOOOO EXCITED. I really am. He is really funny and I think, I know we will make a great team. But I really miss Elder Butel at the same time. I just didnt appreciate him enough when we were companions. But I am sure I will say the same thing about Elder Jensen after we part ways unless I start appreciating my companions more. President Staheli said that Loving your companion is a Choice. I thought that was really cool and I know that if I make that choice me and Elder Jensen will have a blast together.
You sound like you've been keeping pretty busy! Thats great! I am so excited for you! Tell Grandma that I say Hi and that I love her SOO MUCH! And thats really cool you and her get to work on your wedding plans! I am sorry you are sick :( That is no good! I hope you feel better soon! I wish I could be there for the wedding when everybody else will be there! Please Make sure and remember to take pictures and videos so I can see!!
Thanks Brad for the email! I really enjoyed it. And tell Grandma that I say thank you also! I am glad to hear Scout is doing alright! I sent Andrew a letter a week or two ago! I got 2 letters from him and well they were the best letters I have recieved on my mission so far. Seriously, make sure and tell Andy that for me, they were literally the best.
I have thought about it alot and I am so greatful that you found Brad. I cant think of anybody else who deserves finding someone who will make you happy as much as you do. But I think you did the right thing. I am grateful that things have gone the way they did. And dont worry at all, the letter was not depressing. I am glad to hear that things are still going smoothly. I put up some new pictures on smug mug!
Yesterday was fast sunday! I didnt even know it was Super Bowl Sunday! Thats Crazy! I forgot all about it! Anyways I did bear my testimony and it was great. A couple people came up to me and told me how amazed they were with my French. One of them even went as far as to call it a miracle. I guess my french was worse than I thought when I got here ha ha. Anyways it was a good fast sunday! I am kinda jealous of your blizzard though! I want it to snow here! It is kinda like Seattle here. Its either freezing and clear skies or rainy. ha ha I just cant get away from that seattle weather!
Thanks for the email mom! It was great to hear about all the exciting stuff going on back home. I hope everything continues to go well as you prepare for the wedding! As for the package! I am super excited for it. I asked Elder Jensen and he says thankyou but he does not need anything right now. I guess he told his mom she was sending TOO MANY packages to him so she slowed down a little bit so I think he is honestly okay. But I love Packages so no worries there. Anyways I love you mom!

Hey Momma!
It was good to hear from you! Im glad to hear things are still going well out that way.
Today is me and Butels last p-day together and we are having a blast! I hope you enjoy the Videos that we send you today. I suscribed to the same site that he uses, so I will do my best to keep the p-day video tradition alive. We have a blast doing it. I am really, really excited for Elder Jensen to get here. As he is young in the mission I think it will really push me to be more of a presence in conversations and will really help my French improve rapidly. Because Elder Butel speaks perfect French everybody we talked to always spoke at a million miles an hour which has led me to believe that this past transfer has specifically improved my comprehension while this next transfer with Elder Jensen will help me learn how to speak.
Anyways I am going to keep this email a little bit on the short side since we are sending you so many videos telling you all about our week.
I did make a list of a few ideas of things that I thought would be super nice to get in a package. Obviously you dont have to send all of them but here they are!
~Pictures!
~A picture book or something to put pictures in!
~Toothpaste (I figured if you buy a big pack from costco it would be nice to get one)
~A toothbrush (my sonic care charger is not working) Dont worry I have a toothbrush but I figure I will need a new one by the time my next package arrives!
~Deoderant (old spice)-the kind I like is called Denali and its part of a new collection called Fresh collection
~Homemade Salsa
~Homemade Jam
~another memory card from my camera (my camera uses SD cards)
~Post it notes???
Alright, so I know might seem like dumb things to ship all the way around the world. But I think they are cheaper there and I am trying to get in shape. We do a lot of walking here and eat fairly Healthy and I work out every morning so I am TRYING to stear clear of the junk food. However if you shipped these things to me it would make it so I could spend more of my monthly allowance on fun random things like a pain au chocolat or a Kebab! Anyways, I am also going to try and somehow get rid of one of my suitcases. I wanna be able to carry all my lugage by myself on transfer days and well right now thats just not possible and I dont like it. So my last package was wonderful and I use/love every single thing you sent me. But if possible, just keep in mind that I am trying to avoid collecting too much stuff.
Anyways- I am having a blast here. Tomorrow we have our last district meeting all together and we are all going out to get Kebabs afterwords so I am pumped for that!
Okay! Alright- so the work here is good! We officially have NO investigators as of right now. Joseph died (mom's note: Joseph was an 80 year old man that they were teaching and he actually did pass away and Mason and his companion found him when he stopped returning their calls suddenly) this past week as you will see in the video and, well, just because of how insanely crazy and bizarre this transfer has been, me and Jensen will continue to do more finding this next transfer. Something else we will focus on is the Food Night we have scheduled for February 26th.
Our DMP (ward mission leader - Dirigeant missionaire de La Paroisse ) is named Manu Mangatia. He served his mission in the Paris france mission before it consumed The Northern Tip of France and Francophone Belgium. So, its cool because he has actually served in the Paris France mission but he was born in Lille. He is a great guy and we REALLY get along. He has only been back fro his mission for 2 years or so, so he is really young!
The Bishop... wow okay so the Duez family here is amazing. Pierre Duez is the Stake President. His Brother Marc Duez is the Bishop of the Villeneuve D'ascq ward and Jaques Duez is the 2nd counseler. Crazy huh!? I love all three of them though. It is cool to see how great they all work together! We are having dinner with Marc Duez tomorrow night! I am really excited.
The members here dont really know how to work with the missionaries. The bishopric has noticed this and we are working with them very closely on how we can help them. We are also trying to create as many oppurtunites as possible for members to invite friends to fun, comfortable non threatening situations where they can learn about why we are the way we are without the feeling of intense missionaries trying to teach them from the second they walk in. Some of the activities we have started doing to allow this to happen are:
~PPP - On saturday night we do ping pong and pancakes at the chapel. This has been a huge success!
~Samedi Sport on Saturday mornings we go and play soccer from 10-12
~Diner p-pot (some weird french slang for our activity on february 26th)
We have been trying to get members excited for each of these activities and get them to realize how easy it is to invite friends or people they know to play soccer with some people from church! Anyways I hope this helps give you a better idea of what is going on here in the Villeneuve d'Ascq ward!
Ok momma, we gotta go. Gonna go home and make a quiche! I love you soo much! Say hi to everybody for me and Tell andy I am sending him a letter and I will mail it no later than tomorrow! Hey Momma!
I just thought I would email you the whole Transfer email!!!! This is how the whole mission finds out where they are going each transfer. I am STAYING and Butel is going Zone Leader in Orléans! I'm so excited for him but I am gonna miss him a lot! So my new companion Is Elder Jensen! See if you can find him on the document attached!!! I actually met him at interviews this past week and he is really cool and I am REALLY excited to be companions with him! He is REALLY young in the mission. He has only been out 5 or 6 months I think. I believe this is his 5th transfer!
Anyways I got your emails! Thanks so much for sending me an extra one! It was so nice to hear from you twice this week! I will tell you all about Interviews on Monday! And we have been doing the Videos on Butel's camera but I can start using mine! And Butel says that the site that he uses to send the big video files is free so I am going to register on Monday! So I am going to try and keep the whole video thing going! Cause I love it.
Anyways I hope you are having a wonderful week and getting lots done! I love you tons!
Oh, and what do you mean exactly when you ask me how I feel about video games!? Do you mean as in will I play them when I get home? Because yes I defintely will! But I think you are meaning more as in how much is too much??? If that is your question than I would say I have no Idea. The only thought that comes to my mind is maybe instead of giving only punishment for bad grades, maybe lighten up on the discipline and try and motivate him with something. But think for a while and try to figure out a reward of some sort that you think would REALLY motivate hime to WANT to do better??? Anyways Thats all I can think of. :)
But I love you and cant wait to hear from you again on MONDAY!!!! Talk to you soon!
OH I ALMOST FORGOT. I just got Andys letters on Wednesday! I think they might have been the best letters I have gotten on my mission so far. And he is the first person on my list of people to write to on Monday so I plan on sending him a good LONG letter! Do you know If I can send him pictures!? If you could somehow call Grandma and ask her that for me and let me know on Monday I could print off some pictures to send to him! Anyways, I love you soo much mom! Thanks for your email it made my day!
